People From 1950 to 1999 and Pakistan: Whether Worst or Best? Decision is Yours

A few days back, I was just going through the news feed of Facebook and read a post by Qasim Ali Shah, the Public Speaker, Teacher, Writer, and a Corporate Trainer.  He copied that post from someone else’s wall and posted on his own page. This post was about the people born between 1950 and 1999. The post regarded these people as the fortunate and blessed because these people have listened to the stories staying in the mud houses, have played the traditional and local games at the roof with friends, have played cricket on the roads in the rainy season, have flown the kites in the skies during the festival of “Basant – a local Punjabi festival” and played Ludo, Carrom, etc. with parents.

The post also defined that these have played various games with the girls of their society, and participated in their marriage. They read stories in the light of the lantern, wrote their expressions and feelings regarding their very own in the letter, and studied in the local schools (Tat waly Schools). They made the ink for the writing board (Takhti), considered ringing the bells of schools as an honor, and have seen the real sweetness of the relations. They are the people who saw bulls cultivating the fields, tube wells without electricity, and ate fresh mangoes and pears after plucking from the trees. They drank water from sand water tanks (Matti kay Garhay), elders scolded them, but they never scolded them back. They clapped after watching the moon of Ramazan (Eid Ka Chand), made Eid Greeting cards for relatives and friends by their hands and participated in every cheerful and sorrowful event of the society.

They wept their tears on the love story of Shabnam and Nadeem (Local Film Actors) and cheered after seeing uncle Sargam (Puppet character of Pakistani Children Television), adjusted the antenna of TVs, and waited for the week to watch the films. They are the people who slumbered in the open atmosphere on the cots and spent their days of summer under the tree. The author defines these all in poetry.

It was the time,

When all used to sleep on the roof,

Water on the bricks,

Was used to shower,

Fan with one stand,

Used to hang at the ceiling,

Fighting with all,

Was on this talk,

In front of a fan,

Whose cot will be,

As the sun rose,

All used to wake up,

Being very sassy and barefaced,

Used to portray as sleepy,

At mid-nights too,

When the rain came,

And, on the next day,

Cot used to be wet,

Now, the time of sleeping on the roofs,

Has gone away,

All cots have broken,

And, all relations have gone,

(Translated from Urdu)

That time was full of pious and beautiful relations with less educated but faithful people. But now the people are well-educated, however, lost in egotism, selfishness, and self-interests. What a great and well-educated but actually an illiterate and ignorant time this is!

Keeping the brevity, the author regarded this generation (some Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y) as the privileged people with pure love in relations, and faithful. I was somehow supporting this post but sooner I realized this generation is the simultaneously worst generation Pakistan has ever produced. Wait, wait… Give me the time to prove it.

People during these 50 years have faced the worst conditions in Pakistan. These are the people responsible for the current worst conditions in Pakistan. They faced the time that was the best to work for the country and make it Asian Tiger, and growing economy in the world. Because this was the time when most of the nations were evolving as the independent nations, the world’s map was changing, and the economy of many countries was growing. But unfortunately, during this, Pakistan’s main founders were either assassinated or disowned, Pakistan lost its half part (East Pakistan), it had the worst and the cheapest politicians ever, and the worst corruption. Pakistan was being put into the fire of blasphemy, religious terrorism, and extremism. This hampered the growth of Pakistan.

Same happened with the Muslims (Muslim Ummah)in the world. They faced the hatred from the world, the Qibla and spiritual country for all Muslims – Saudi Arabia had the Arab-Israel War, America went on to war with Vietnam, invaded Iraq and many other Muslim countries. Events did not stop here. There are a lot of things to quote that will show how the people in between 1950 and 1999 are simultaneously blessed and worst.

Well! You may call me the person who lives in the past but, believe me, it is the reality. But, you cannot change it. Hence, regardless of being proud of all blessings and easy life, these people must think about what they have given to themselves, the society, the people and the world. Nothing, just some shitty events and local stories full of fantasies. Therefore, these people now should train the future of Pakistan. This is the only option left for them. The youth of Pakistan (people born from 1995 until 2015) have either joined the workforce or ready to join, however, some are in the schools. Now, it is the responsibility of the nations’ elders to train them, educate them about the current and future technologies, and support them regardless of the biases and personal interests.

May ALLAH Pak bless Pakistan and Muslim Ummah.
