There Is No Greater Agony Than Bearing an Untold Story Inside You” And “A Pearl Is Only A Pearl Once It Is Out of Its Shell

Everyone in this world is raised in a different environment with different tactics, with different standards, with different values and with different people in different societies. Therefore, each among us is different in personality, experiences, and opinions. Therefore, some are shy or surly and some are cheerful or sociable, i.e., even brother that are raised in the same home with the same parents, and values do not possess same personalities, experiences, and opinions. We in general regard these experiences and opinions as the positive, negative, optimist, and pragmatic. For instance, for the same event or thing, some people will have a positive opinion, and some will have a negative opinion. This could be either due to the experience or observation. But! When all of us are different than is it good to keep our experiences in a shell? Do not these experiences come out for other people to take inspiration? This is an ineffable question.

According to the great American poet, civil rights activist and the writer of the famous autobiography (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings) Maya Angelou, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” There are many reasons to define your stories to the world and in my opinion, no reason to withhold these stories. These untold stories are supposed to be part of our literature though untold literature is worthless. It is the fact that everyone owns the story inside him/herself which is unique and can give hope of life or inspiration to others. On most occasions, people own the untold stories that can be regarded as more worthwhile but, since these stories are untold, these are worthless and cannot become the part of literature.

If we analyze the nature, it also expresses itself and tells us stories. It is said that “expression is the essence of nature” and if we take this axiom in the sense of nature, we will come to know that everything in nature is expressing itself in different forms like 4 seasons in a year, rain, storm, flowers, fruits, vegetable, mountains, plains, rivers, waterfalls, moon, etc. These all are the ways nature expresses itself to humans. Poet and storytellers listen to these expressions and transform into worth listening. Besides, in the Holy Qur’an, Almighty ALLAH Himself describes several stories of Prophets that are full of lessons for humanity. This depicts that not only nature, but humans are also prone to listen to stories. It is observed that lectures without stories do not enforce humans to take interest. They even try to connect concepts with examples to understand it.

These examples are extracted from someone’s stories and these examples do not let them die. But! The question comes, what if they did not tell these stories/examples and lived in a shell? Would they be as famous as today? Definitely, not. They realized the value of being expressive. They came out of their shell and let the world listen to them. This made them a pearl. According to a Proverb “A Pearl is only a pearl once it is out of its shell.” This also depicts the idea of exploring self, coming out of the box and defining own self. Telling untold stories to others is also a way to explore the self by thinking, organizing the stories and telling them in a way that must own the lessons and humor.

These people and stories lead the nation to stand. For example, there are several stories in the making of Pakistan. The youth of Pakistan grew up listening to these stories. These stories motivate them and let them understand the value of independence which does not come easily. For example, none of any young have seen the Indo-Pak war of 1965 and 1971 but all have listened or read about both. Plus, listening to these stories or reading makes them feel patriotic, ambitious, enthusiastic and energetic.  These are the stories that make the people of a nation great. For example, we have not seen the time of Allama Iqbal, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Mahatma Gandhi, William Shakespeare, George Bernard Shaw, etc. but we all have to listen about them. Hence, we all know them.

Besides these all, if you feel your story cannot inspire others, you are truly disgracing yourself. Hence, if you are keeping something inside you that can make the impact, you are committing a serious crime. In your life and after your demise, you will not be remembered for what you learned but what you gave to society or how many people take inspiration from you (Thomas Oppong). If you are not able to inspire even an individual, you lived a worthless life. Furthermore, our books are full of scripted stories with fantasies which do not allow people to take the real idea of life (how difficult and simultaneously breathtaking it is). Therefore, the world needs a story with veracity, and this can only be sourced from you.

So, do not take time, take your pen out and write your story for others or speak out when you feel it is the right time to tell your story to others. Do not hesitate and be a candle or hope for others in this hopeless world.
